L-carnitine’s link to sow productivity

Energy balance in gestating and lactating sows has long been held to be the key to successful sow performance. However, recent research suggests that although this holds true for growing pigs, supplementing sow diets with L-carnitine is more likely to exert its effect through improving milk quantity and quality, thus giving the neonatal pig a kick start.     This article can also be found in Pig Progress Volume 21 number 5.
