Brazil has reached a new milestone in animal science with the birth of Boreal, Latin America’s first cloned piglet. Delivered on 24 March in Piracicaba, São Paulo state, Boreal represents a breakthrough for both the region’s swine genetics and the future of biomedical research. The piglet, named Boreal, is the result of a project led by the University of São Paulo (USP), the Institute of Animal Science (IZ), the Institute for Technological Research (IPT) and the company XenoBrasil.
