While larger pig producers in at least two of the prospective new European Union countries are looking forward to the benefits they believe they will get from the union when they become members next year, EU membership could mean the end of the road for their smaller farmers. This became clear during the inaugural World Pork Congress held at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham, England, when agricultural ministers from both Poland and Hungary delivered papers to delegates.
