
The large Chinese agribusiness and pig integrator Da Bei Nong (DBN) has confirmed that its founder and chairman, Dr Shao Genhuo, passed away at the age of 60 on February 3.

Dr Shuo, a graduate of China Agricultural University, founded Da Bei Nong in 1997. The company, of which the name means “Great Agriculture of the North,” grew out to become one of China’s major players in agriculture, with not only activity in pigs, but also in animal health products, animal nutrition products as well as seeds.
The company is listed at Shenzhen stock exchange. In many obituaries on WeChat, Dr Shao is characterised as being a “renowned Chinese agricultural and animal husbandry entrepreneur.” Chinese media characterise his death as a “sudden departure.”
In official communication, the Beijing-based company stated that Mr Zhang Lizhong, who was the company’s vice-chairman, will act as chairman until the company’s board of directors will elect a new chairman. Several years ago, Pig Progress visited the DBN Yutian Technology Park, close to Beijing.
