As welfare and behaviour have become important topics for Western Europe’s pig industry, so has breeding for behaviour. Even though pig breeder PIC says the company is on the right track with welfare-related breeding, the road is long, says Dr Kerstin Reiners, commercial director of PIC Western Europe. For the sale of female animals, breeding organisation PIC normally works with a centrally operated sales team. For the Western European market, however, the breeder operates with local dealer
