Bulgaria’s pig industry ready to grow again

In 1990, Bulgaria’s pig production reached an ?all-time high of 4.3 million pigs. The following 25 years, however, showed a steep fall in herd numbers to just over half a million head. What happened – and what is the outlook for the country’s pig industry? The human and porcine population in Bulgaria had something in common over the last 30 years. The numbers were much higher about 30 years ago, and have fallen since – but things seems to be stabilising now. As for humans – in the 199
