Automatic straw dispenser wins Dutch innovation award

A so-called “pulse feeder” for use in the rearing facilities has been named most promising pig innovation idea in the Netherlands. The developers received their prize at the Dutch Pig & Poultry Expo in Den Bosch, on October 15. Essentially, the pulse feeder automatically dispenses roughage when the pigs are active. Doing so reduces the risk of tail biting, according to the developers. The distributor is suitable for dispensing various types of roughage, such as alfalfa, chopped straw,
