1. When your IP isn’t as protected as you think
Many feed mills have faith in Excel sheets which contain their passwords, NDAs or on-premise systems to keep their feed formulations safe. That “safe enough” approach, however, often creates a false sense of security.

Purchasing normally has been negotiating very decent contracts, whereas formulation is always looking for the best possible feed composition. If those two worlds aren’t really connected, then invisibly quite a lot of margin gets lost.
