Back after 26 years: Brucella suis emerges in Danish pigs

For the first time since 1999, brucellosis has emerged in Denmark’s pig population, on 6 farms in total. The disease, caused by the bacteria Brucella suis, causes sows to abort. According to the website of the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), a suspicion of the outbreak first emerged on August 1, 2025 on a free-range pig herd near Herning, with in total 3,850 animals.
